Jump High, Play Hard, Dig Deep

If you have ever played the game of
volleyball chances are you liked it. What’s not to like about a sport where you can go all out in every play. You can hit the ball as hard as you please and nobody will get mad at you. In fact the harder you hit it, the louder the crowd will cheer. Most sports have a lot of equipment, or a field that you have to have in order to play. In soccer you can’t play without a goal, you can’t really play football without a field, and you can’t play basketball without a hoop. In volleyball the only thing you need to have fun is a volleyball. You don’t even need another person, you can play against a wall, off a roof, or you can just practice setting or passing into the air. Volleyball is great for people who prefer to play sports in a team, but it is also great for people that prefer to do things alone, as I have just showed.
In volleyball there are three main positions, and they all offer specialties of their own. There are defensive players, offensive players, and a setter. The defensive players are the backbone of the team. Without good passes to the setter a hitter wouldn’t be able to make the best hit. Defensive players have to stay close to the ground and move just right to the ball to make a good pass.
The setters then have to position themselves so that they can set the ball to one of their hitters. The setters also have to have their fingers positioned correctly with the thumbs and index fingers of their hands forming a triangle above their foreheads. They then have to use their legs and their fingers to set the ball to a hitter. The hitters don’t just have to hit the ball though. The hitters have to back out of the court while the setter is preparing the ball. The hitters then have to time their approach just right so that they can hit the ball when it is at the best position in the air.
